About Us
A builder who learned the trade one brick at a time
Pete Bartlett started out as a bricklayer more than 40 years ago. The business he runs now, Buildings For Life, is a family company that takes a job from the first spade in the ground to the last coat of paint: groundworks, brickwork, structure, roofs, joinery and finishing.
The last 15 years have added high-end and natural stone work to the brick, and our work has featured on the BBC programme Building Dream Homes.

Single and two storey extensions, rear, side and wraparound, built to tie into the original house so the join is hard to find.
Brickwork
The trade Pete started in over 40 years ago: new walls, matching old brick, piers, arches, repointing and natural stone.
Loft Conversions
Dormer, hip-to-gable and roof-light loft conversions that turn an unused roof space into a proper room with stairs to match.
Structural & Groundworks
Foundations, drainage, slabs, steel beams and opening up walls: the work underneath every extension and new build.
Renovation & Refurbishment
Whole-house renovations, reconfigured layouts, kitchens and joinery, from period cottages to post-war semis.

Inside the house too
Joinery, kitchens and renovation work
The same team that builds the shell fits out the inside, so the structure, the walls and the finish are all one job with one person answerable for it.
Fitted Furniture and Joinery
Alcove units, fitted wardrobes, shelving and cupboards made to fit the room they go in, by the same carpenters who fit the floors, stud walls and roofs on our builds. Scribed to walls that are rarely straight, and finished so the doors still close in five years.
Kitchens and Interior Joinery
Kitchens fitted as part of an extension or a renovation, with the structural work, the walls and the joinery handled by one team. Worktops, units, doors, architraves and skirting all line up because the people fitting them also built the room.
Renovation and Home Improvements
Opening up rooms, moving or closing openings, new steels and a proper finish afterwards. We take older houses back to something solid and square, and bring tired post-war houses up to how people live in them now.
